[Project IMG] May Updates

I haven’t write an updates for almost 2 months. But yeah, only did very few little progress on this game. Had lost my motivation doing this game on April. Because on April I was promised to do story writing. I get so much depressed and stressed while doing the story, like I can’t even come up another interesting idea. I keep rewrite story but always feel bland and flat like most generics.. I’ll probably keep discussing with my friends about the story.

And this May too, I think I’m gonna pause the game development, as I’ll be doing on models and grinding my modelling skill making V6 models.

Changelog

So yeah, let’s just compile both May and April updates on my game

  • [ADD] School Interior Environment, for now it’s only main hall and cafetaria
  • [ADD] Skip function on certain event talk
  • [ADD] Gift function. So now you can gift anything to NPC and get their response.
  • [ADD] SocialCORE on NPC. Now NPC can talk, joking, even flirting to each other. NPC will also greet you according your relationship to them.
  • [ADD] NPC now can open their phone like usual teenager high school.
  • [ADD] Emotion bubbles on NPC to tell player how they feel (Thanks to Leon Sieghart for suggestion)
  • [ADD] Mini object interaction. Things that appear a little conversation / feel on your mind about certain objects.
  • [ADD] Extra activity. Now you can play Console Games or even watch Anime. This will affect your stats.
  • [FIX] Now you can’t hit girls or certain AI.
  • [FIX] Skirt physics, even it’s not 100% flawless, but that’s the maximum I can do.
  • [FIX] Now using Vector3.Dot instead of lame rotation == on Activity CORE. This makes NPC wont standing while their legs pass through the chair for a long while waiting for the same rotation as the chair. Instead, now they reach the seat and begin sitting.
  • [FIX] Broken choices that it selects both choice in the same time.
  • [FIX] Broken animation clip that I was missing a T-Pose before rigging after all ! (Thanks to Mai Nguyễn Bình Hưng and Muhammad Umair Mirza for the help)
  • [FIX] Some materials.
  • [FIX] Wrong hat placement on a thug.
  • [CHANGE] Shader of “Stop” scene limiter sign to a smooth particle.
  • [CHANGE] Rebaked lightmap for Home interior scene

What to do next ?

In this month, I’ll pause my game development again. Doing Teachers NPC models, setting up Anime NPC asset pack for Asset Store, and do V6 model with many accuracy. In a meantime, I’ll replay Persona 3 to get more inspiration.

  • [TODO: ADD] Convert random NPC student to Unity
  • [TODO: ADD] Chapter 1 of my game
  • [TODO: ADD] DATE-A-CORE to be added later on as soon as one dateable female character is ready.

  • [TODO: FIX] There’s a way to bug in a quest that require you to buy stuff. I’m still thinking way to patch it.
  • [TODO: FIX] The way AI sit on chair is kinda broken.

[Project IMG] March Updates

After having friends to test out my February beta build, I’ve received many things to fix, from bug to story. I’ve had so much tension after having them test and turns out my game got a lot of thing to fix. Then I decided to take a rest for 1 week away from Unity, playing games such as Akiba’s Trip, or modelling Megumin.

I feel much refreshed after having break away from Unity. So I’ve done most thing quickly and do major updates in March. Here’s the major changelist I did on my game:

  • [ADD] Rebindable Input for controller
  • [ADD] Door hinge joint removed and added interaction to door
  • [ADD] Post Process changed to Stackable Post Process. Which is faster
  • [ADD] Can change resolution in game
  • [ADD] Autosave option. Will save your progress once you done doing quest.
  • [ADD] Skip able cutscene
  • [ADD] Aimbot fighting, only fight nearest enemy
  • [ADD] Relationship indicator now visible
  • [ADD] CTRL to fast forward VN chatting
  • [ADD] Control information for VN
  • [FIX] Amount of chat for quest
  • [FIX] Camera Field of View changed for indoor scene
  • [FIX] Rain on Marketplace
  • [FIX] Disabled changing cloth while doing certain quest
  • [FIX] Choices no longer pressing to continue, instead, pressing or for controller
  • [FIX] UI Fixes when choosing button
  • [FIX] Progress will saved after you finished first cutscene
  • [FIX] Time are now clamped, no more bugging with the time while using desk activity
  • [FIX] Music fades when changing scene or when become silent at night
  • [FIX] “Money not Enough” but it’s free bug on Train Station

1 Year of Development of Unnamed Project IMG

Now it has been 1 year of development. I usually never been making game this long, the longest time I develop is Nitro Racer XD, and just 5 months~. It was back in when I was in high school, so I get a lot of free time doing that.

It took many long cause I do all models and stuff, and I also do have work full time and freelance to keep my game alive. It’s very hard that you only have few hours to do this everyday, but I managed to finish most CORE in less than 1 year, so in 2017, I’ll just go ahead doing the storyline. Hopefully can finish before 2017 ends.

So lemme sum up the development for 1 year.

Started from a Word Document

This game started as a random anime story I wrote on a word document. Back in that, I didn’t even think of making game of this. It basically just like usual anime, school life themed, romance, and comedy.

Many people says or think that my game is Yandere Sim, but no, my game don’t even have any connection to it. I don’t even play Yandere Sim before. All my game models were made by myself. Even tho I do have Yandere character in my game, but she’s inspired from Kurumi Date A Live. Inoue Seiko is a mysterious girl in my game, and mostly absent, so you’ll hardly to met her.

Inoue Seiko, don’t worry, she’ll protect you no matter what.

My game was inspired from Date A Live and Oregairu. There are more than 5 girls you can date with different personality.

Momoe Kitagawa is an Angery Tsundere.

My game is kind of social sim where you play as a guy who conceal himself in a room playing game all day all time, and have to start socializing cause his computer broken and can’t play game anymore. I’ve been worked a lot on Story with my schoolmates and discussing the gameplay with them.

Even my game already 1 year old, I still can’t decide what name I should gave for my game. Here’s the list of the name I’ve given on my game.

At that time, I didn’t even think of making this game, cause I’ve been heartbroken and lost all my spirit making game since my last game, Nitro Racer XD. The reason I want to back to make game, cause I’ve been making some real time renders with Unity, and also I saw so many people making game, and it looks fun, So yeah, I started doing the game on March 2016.

Starting Concept

At March, I started to extract all my models that I use for renders and compose it as a scene. This is how Phone UI Concept looks like. I added the way to receive quest, call a friend, go somewhere, and your stats in a phone.

And this is earlier version of The CORE UI and Pause Menu. There are still health bar, but later on, I removed it because it’s kinda useless and many more important information need to be added.

Haha yeah, I’m UI Designer at work, so yeah I usually and always do like to make simple or minimalist UI. The UI for pause menu is so simple that only 3 menus and blurred background.

Beginning CORE

On April 2016, I’ve finally made the VN CORE on my game. This is earlier version of the VN UI, it has 2D character left and super simple text panel, and chat bubble for choice. (Sorry it were in Japanese). At first I thought about translating my game to Japanese too, but the text file are just gigantic, and no one would play my game in Japanese, so yeah, I remove it.

Later on, all the UI also updated like Pause menu above. Basic Quest System also implemented in this. And new loading screen.

CORE Beta 1 (June 2016)

After been making a lot of COREs, I decided to give it to my friends to test it to see if my game has good performance and CORE behaves very well. Turns out I received a lot of bug reports from them. Some of them can’t even run, or runs slow on 6 years old PC (9500GT).

Later on, after I fix all those issue, I also did some Beta test again to some of my friends, this time only performance test or stress test. Turns out pretty well, my game still can run neatly 60FPS in ultra quality and when there are 20 NPCs at same time.

Since my old Quest CORE had tons of bug during CORE Test 1, I decided to rewrite whole QuestCORE script. Earlier version of Quest CORE was using system from Personified Fear, that’s really hard to use to make Quest, cause you have to make many arrays even it’s useless and put everything there. And thanks to Kyana, who been helped me doing Quest CORE Editor script, so now it’s easier for me to make the quest.

CORE Phase 2 and Beyond

After finished fixing all those bugs, I started to make models and environments. And here’s some of the screenshot of the Environment I’ve made.

From August to October, I just do some of the environments, no touching any COREs during that time. But I still update some of the COREs like this below.

In November to December, I’ve stopped doing the environment and start doing Storyline and CORE enriching. Like I said before, the Combat system will be removed, but instead of remove it, I enrich it, so yeah now can fight with students.

Conclusion

So yeah, it’s really tiring being solo dev when you have to do everything by yourself. And no I don’t use stuff from Asset Store, I only use it for helping me scripting since I can’t do super ultra wow advanced programming. The Asset Store stuff I use were just like Dynamic Bones, Localization, Dialogue Editor (I enriched it to compatible with my VNCORE), UI Tween, and Musics / sound.

I was expecting to release Demo Build on September 2016, but I can’t made it, and even releasing Demo Build on December 2016, but still can’t made it. But in 2017, I hope I can finish this game before 2017 ends. I should start build fanbase and marketing for my game.

Finished Quest Animation

Hello guys and Merry Christmas ! I’ve been worked hard on the CORE this month, even tho I did say I wont touch game or do NoGameDecember challenge, but I seem fail it on 2nd week. I’ve worked a lot on Social CORE / VNCORE, Combat System, and many more logic stuff and fixes.

New Combat System

Although I say that combat system ain’t main focus on my game, and will probably removed, but I think it’ll make the game less interesting. So I already have basic combat system that I’ve developed on earlier CORE making progress, but I feel that can be make a little bit perfected or fixed or at least playable.

So in this update, the combat system are like you go ahead to NPC and left click, and start hitting, they’d react and be like “Why would you hit me” and forgive you for a few seconds, and then if you keep hitting them, if they are Aggressive, they’d start a fight with you, and if their are personality are Peaceful, they’d just flee.

You can end fights if you run away really far that NPC really tired to chase you, and they be like “Ah nevermind that”. But do keep in mind, they’d hate you so much.

And you’ll get nearby people watching you guys fight. This also depends on the personality, if aggressive, they’d watch, else, they’d flee.

Also fixed some little thing you guys might not notice. Like delayed got attacked animation, putting a fight particle system to it, broken fight logic.

Social CORE / VN CORE

Yeah, this thing is like, almost most important thing in my game. Now you can fully interact with NPC, like you have to introduce yourself, talk about a topics, or make a joke, or even flirting with a boys.

If you don’t introduce yourself to NPC, your relationship with NPC will hardly increase, and their name will keep “???”, also impossible to go more than Acquaintance relationship.

All the stats should be affecting the interaction too, like if you have good number of Humor stat, your chance of people get your joke will be higher.

Unlike the earlier version, this update now the NPC can have react if they are your enemy, they’ll get angry face and talk harshly to you, if they are your friend, they’ll happy to see you. Also yeah, if they hate you, you can apologize to them, they’d likely to accept your apologize, but if they are your enemy, don’t think that apologize would help them, it’s hard.

Other Minor Changes

Here are the list of minor changes

  • Player’s icon in the left corner replaced to current Season.
  • TV CORE implemented, now my game has TV-like ads, but nah, my game wont have ads like android, probably that’s just sponsor’s video. But I don’t have any sponsors, so yeah I just leave it blank.
  • There’s some NPC you can’t pushed away.
  • Now everyone has to wear certain shoe on certain place. You wouldn’t wear shoe inside the house right.
  • Fixed NPC Activity.
  • Remaked layout on COREGUI

[Unnamed Project IMG] November Update

I think I done with doing CORE component for now. Time to start doing Story. I’ll also play some VN I got to find neat inspiration.

For those who didn’t know what my game is about.. I’ll repeat what I said last month again..

My game, in short, it’s just a social simulation inspired on Anime, in a situation where you play as antisocial teenager (locks in their room in without having social life) and then the challenge on being accepted on society and stop being hated by everyone. It also involves high school romance, school life, and comedy. Further story and gameplay still in discussion.

So it’s more like Quest Based RPG. You wont see the gameplay cause I disable the Quest.

Brief update on November Update

  • Japanese Language removed. Only English available.
  • Player now can call another NPC.
  • Now you can change uniform.
  • Fixed weather system, like Sunny weather should be longer than another one, and if you move scene, it’ll change too.
  • Weather system now follows Season condition.
  • Date now progressed (Thanks to Kyana for helping me making Date system)
  • Spawning pedestrians.
  • And many fixes I forgot.

Now I should be start working on Storyline and Quest. So hopefully on December, CORE Build 2 will available.

[Unnamed Project IMG] October Update

This is the first time I write about my game update on this blog. Previous updates was in my tumblr.

As I’ve been almost 1 year developing this game (6 months if started from I start doing Unity). I still haven’t decide the title for the game yet. But for a temporary codename, let’s just call it Super Desu Desu. This below is the random logo doodle for my game.

I probably wont make a combat system on my game. I mean come on, it’s VN like, how you can fight. In current version, simple combat system and AI logic is already developed, but I still thinking whether I should remove it or no.

Q : So if you saying that your game has no combat ? Then where’s the gameplay ?
A : It’s a Social Sim, VN + RPG, like I ever said before, whatever you do to the NPC will affect the future of the story (It seems pretty complex for me to do especially am not programmer). But yeah it mostly Social Sim.

Okay so that’s the short description of my game. And this below is how far is my game now. It’s not that far yet, as this below just demo of Suburban Environment. I also put many stuff like Time and Date simulation, so it can have seasons and weather. It’s not perfect yet, but it works !

Nitro Racer XD V1.1D Available now

I know last version was very bad. In this version, I already fixed all your problems on Comments and Reviews.
This is the requested updates

  • ” I think if you change the brake to break hard and handbrake to drift this would get much more race-feeling. At the moment the brake and handbrake nearly got no function. ” sashusambar.

About the Graphic issue, I can’t fix it. Because I’m using Unity3D Indie and I’m not a $$$$$$$$$$ game studio, just a school student. If you really want this game has an epic graphic, you can give me your Unity Pro.
Anyways, this is the updates.

  • ADDED 2 New character. One is a ” Thank You ” character and an ” Update ” Character.
  • ADDED Night mode feature. Driving in a night with high speed is a joy.
  • ADDED Drift feature! (As Requested by sashusambar ) Real drift, drift, grip, or real grip. Some cars may not support real drift (it may lost some grips)
  • Cuber Icon was CHANGED.
  • Meme Placeholder ads CHANGED to Original Ads. (As Requested by villevalohart +negatronnn)
  • CHANGED cloth shader from Particles > Alpha Blended to Alpharized Shadow (Custom Shader). And now it looks more clothlike.
  • CHANGED smooth follow linecasted distance. Now the camera shouldn’t touch the wall.
  • TWEAKED the difficulty of the AI. (As requested by psychicparrot). I thought the AI was too easy. Well, my friend said so.
  • CHANGED the value on skidding. I think it’s too loud when skidding, especially on Drifting.
  • FIXED Brake is now fully functionable. Earlier version’s brake was seems very useless. (As requested by sashusambar )
  • REMOVED Git-R feature. Now you can reverse and then accelerate without having problem with the transmission. (As requested by villevalohart )
  • SAVED Level Load Fade V2 from NullReference bug. On earlier version, they were cried for hidden pause menu on main menu because they can’t find it.
  • FIXED Major bug on Character Selection menu. Earlier version was just like this, if you unlock one secret character, then you’ll unlock all characters.
  • FIXED Texture problems (From 2.5MB / character to 500KB / character). It saves a lot of hard disk spaces.
  • FIXED Vertex’s kart texture. (As Requested by villevalohart +negatronnn)
  • FIXED secret character bug on character selection menu (they just got unexpectedly blackout).
  • FIXED some view problem on Skypapa, and Neville.
  • FIXED sound pitch bug on kart engines.
  • FIXED waypoint absent checker. Now it just support more than 40 characters.
  • And many more. I don’t know….

This probably the last update for Nitro Racer XD. I’m tired working all day, up all night, forget my homework, and late to school but everyone hates my hard work. I’m planning to make Nitro Racer XD 2 and Micro Racer XD. You can read it on my blog.Thanks for downloading!
